The Montshire Museum of Science is the Upper Valley's much-loved hands-on science museum, sitting on a wooded bluff above the Connecticut River. Its name is a blend of Vermont and New Hampshire, the two states whose border runs down the river beside it, and it serves communities on both banks. Though the museum building stands on the Vermont side in Norwich, it is just minutes across the bridge from Hanover, New Hampshire, and Dartmouth College, and it belongs, in spirit and in daily use, to the whole bi-state region.
Inside, the exhibits are the kind you operate rather than observe: bubbles, gears, moving water, light, and animal habitats, all designed so that understanding comes through doing. Outside, the museum opens into a woodland Science Park where water channels, a maze, and giant instruments turn the surrounding forest and riverbank into part of the exhibit.

The Montshire built its reputation on exhibits that reward hands and curiosity.
