About Silver Sands Motel
Silver Sands Motel has stood on South Montesano Street in Westport since 1969, built during the town's commercial fishing boom. A husband and wife who discovered Westport on a road trip, fell hard for the town, and saw something in the Silver Sands worth saving, acquired the property in early 2022 and completed a full renovation of all rooms by June of that year. The single-story building retains the classic exterior-access motor lodge format: every room opens directly to the parking area. Westport sits at the southern tip of a long Pacific-facing peninsula at the mouth of Grays Harbor, about two and a half hours southwest of Seattle. It is a working fishing town: crab boats, charter fleets, and a working marina. The Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the tallest in Washington State, stands under a mile from the motel.
What Silver Sands Motel Is Known For
Silver Sands sits apart from other Westport lodging because the people who renovated it treated it as a passion project, not a value-add transaction. The owners' stated goal is to acquire older motels with stories worth preserving and bring them back into service: the Silver Sands is their first. The level of attention in the renovation, down to the matching bistro tables inside each room and on the covered patio outside, reflects owners who stay in hotels and pay attention to what matters. Guests in reviews from across two years describe rooms that exceeded what they expected from a coastal Washington motel, which is the clearest indicator that the work held.

What Guests Love
- When one guest's 41st wedding anniversary coincided with their Silver Sands stay, management arranged a surprise bouquet of roses and a card at the door. Guests mention specific moments of hospitality like this across independent reviews.
- The outdoor fire pit and covered patio area give guests somewhere to be when the Pacific fog rolls in. The social space anchors the evenings in a way most coastal motels do not.
- The outdoor shell and gear wash station is a practical touch that reads as thought-through. After a day of beachcombing, crabbing, or surfing, having a dedicated wash area at the motel is the kind of detail you notice on the second trip.

The Room
Every room at Silver Sands was renovated in 2022 with consistent, well-considered finishes: wood laminate flooring, a coffeemaker, mini refrigerator, microwave, and a 50-inch TV. Beds are comfortable and well-reviewed across multiple platforms. Private en-suite bathrooms with renovated fixtures; a black face towel for makeup removal is a recurring detail in guest reviews, which is the kind of thing people notice when they appreciated it. Each room includes a bistro-style table and chairs inside, and matching chairs outside on the covered patio in front of the room. Complimentary bottled water. Free WiFi. All rooms face the parking area with direct exterior access. Some rooms are pet-friendly. Room configurations include queen and two-bed room, and suite with a separate living room.
The Grounds
The Silver Sands sits on South Montesano Street, the main road through the south end of Westport, in a single-story footprint where every room door faces the parking area and the parking is free and immediate. The outdoor fire pit and entertainment area is covered and holds a gas grill, giving guests a communal outdoor space that works in the rain, which is relevant for coastal Washington. A shell and gear wash station is available for guests returning from the beach. A small gift shop is on the property.
The Experience
Westport runs on the rhythms of the Pacific: crabbing season, charter fishing season, the surf swells that bring people up from Portland and Seattle between October and April. Silver Sands works as a home base for all of it. Self check-in via keypad keeps arrivals simple at any hour. Staff during operating hours are attentive by guest accounts, and the owners have replied personally to reviews since opening. Repeat guests, some of whom stayed at the original Silver Sands for decades, began returning after the 2022 renovation and welcomed the new owners publicly. The sister property, South Bay Inn, is a few blocks away on the same street for guests who need a second option in town.
