About Cape Motel
The Cape Motel spent years sitting empty before new owners took it on and coaxed it back to life. Owner Eric restored the old motor court room by room and has kept adding to it since, the kind of host guests mention by name in their reviews because he will happily walk you around and show you what he is building next. The renovation kept the bones of a mid-century motor lodge, the long low silhouette and the doors that open right onto the parking apron, while everything inside got cleaned up and modernized. What makes it feel personal is that the work never really stopped. This is a property still being shaped by the people who love it, and you can feel that care in how tidy and thought-through the place is.
What Cape Motel Is Known For
Cape Motel takes obvious pride in being a labor of love brought back from abandonment, and it shows in how consistently guests single out the friendly, hands-on hospitality and how clean and cared-for everything is. The container bar and nightly fire give an ordinary motel stay a sense of occasion, and the resident chickens and rabbits give it heart. It is proud, rightly, of being welcoming to dogs, easy on the wallet, and genuinely fun to hang around.

- Pets are welcome for a small per-pet fee each stay.
- The property is pet friendly and includes a dog run, which most guests love but is worth knowing if you prefer a quieter, animal-free stay.
- The vast majority of reviews praise the cleanliness, though one recent guest noted a bit of dampness in their room, worth flagging while the owners keep improving the place.
The Room
Rooms are simple, clean, and freshly renovated, split between motor-lodge rooms you can pull right up to and a handful of bed-and-breakfast style rooms. They run small and unfussy, the point being comfort and a good night's rest rather than square footage. Each room is stocked with the practical things that make a road trip easier, including a mini refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker, complimentary coffee, and bottled water, all over free Wi-Fi. Bed configurations range from a single king to two-bed rooms and a family suite, with an accessible room available as well.
The Grounds
The grounds are the real draw. An outdoor swimming pool anchors the yard, and beside it sits the container bar, a cocktail spot built out of an actual shipping container that pours drinks and sets the tone on warm evenings. A fire pit is lit most nights, so there is almost always a reason to stay outside after dark. Picnic tables shaded by umbrellas sit near the rooms, and grills are on hand if you want to cook. Wandering the property you will meet the resident animals, a small flock of chickens and a few rabbits that guests love, and if you time it right, the view opens up to a genuinely lovely Chesapeake sunset.
The Experience
Staying here is a Chesapeake beach-town stay in the truest sense. Days point toward the water, whether that is the sand at Cape Charles Beach, a paddle along the bay, or a slow drive out to a wildlife refuge. Evenings pull back to the motel, to a drink at the container bar, a seat by the fire, and the quiet of a property that sits a little apart from the bustle. It is the sort of place where you fall into conversation with the owner or another guest without meaning to, and where the whole rhythm of the trip slows down to match the tide.
