Anacapa Island

Anacapa's best-known sight is Arch Rock, a natural bridge of stone arcing out of the sea near the landing, a classic emblem of the park. The island is topped by a historic lighthouse, and a network of short trails leads to overlooks with dramatic views down the cliffs and across the channel.

In late winter and spring, the island's slopes turn brilliant yellow as the giant coreopsis blooms, a striking seasonal spectacle. Seabirds nest in great numbers on the island and cliffs, and the surrounding waters teem with life, so wildlife is a constant presence.

Anacapa is reached only by boat, typically on a concession ferry from Ventura, and the crossing can be choppy. Landing on the island is an adventure in itself: boats pull up to a dock where visitors climb a ladder and then a long staircase up the cliff to reach the top of the island.
